it all started with three strong-willed women from Siberia
There was Zena, who worked in nature conservation at a time when most women weren’t expected to have careers. Living in Siberia during the 1940’s, Zena was well-read, thoughtful, and in tune with all the beauty and color she discovered working in nature. And then there was Rose, renowned for her personal brand of style and grace, which she channeled into her work as a seamstress. Living in Soviet Russia in the 1950’s and 60's, she became a revolutionary for creating unique designs that defied the conservative styles of her time.
It’s with this heritage of determination, vision, and beauty that Marina Melnikova, granddaughter of Zena and Rose, opened ZenaRose in 2016.
Owner & Style director
Marina was born in Magadan, Siberia in the 1980's. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1999, bringing her grandmothers’ legacy with her, and hasn’t stopped creating since.
Marina has over 10 years experience working in the beauty industry between New York City and Boston. She’s studied at Parsons School of Design and the Aveda Institute in New York, where she developed her unique approach to color and style. Marina then moved to Boston, where she hustled and rose through the ranks as a stylist before opening her own acclaimed salon, ZenaRose, in 2016.
Clients, brides, and photographers alike agree that to be around Marina is to be around a friend. She’s the kind that remembers exactly how you like to part your hair, your favorite lipstick, and your sign. Her personal approach, along with an artist’s understanding of color and texture, is her secret to creating a look that’s distinctly yours. It’s why Boston Magazine named ZenaRose Best of Boston in 2018, and it’s why you’ll think so, too.
